GitHub Copilot essentially created the AI coding assistant category and remains its most widely adopted product. Here is our assessment after extensive daily use.

Code Completion Quality

Copilot's inline code suggestions are remarkably good. In our testing across Python, TypeScript, Go, and Rust, the suggestions were accepted 35-45% of the time -- a high rate that demonstrates genuine usefulness. The suggestions range from single-line completions to entire functions, and Copilot handles boilerplate code particularly well.

Chat Experience

Copilot Chat allows you to ask questions, request code changes, and get explanations directly in your IDE. While functional, the chat experience is less capable than Cursor's -- it lacks the deep codebase awareness and multi-file editing capabilities that make Cursor stand out.

Language Support

Copilot works well with virtually every programming language, with particularly strong performance in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, Go, Ruby, and C#. Less common languages still get useful suggestions, though quality decreases for very niche languages.

Enterprise Value

For businesses, Copilot's enterprise features are compelling. IP indemnification protects against copyright claims, organization-wide policies control what Copilot can access, and audit logs provide compliance visibility. The fine-tuned models on Enterprise can be trained on your organization's codebase.

GitHub Copilot is the safe, reliable choice for AI coding assistance. It does the fundamentals extremely well and has the enterprise features that businesses require. For developers wanting a more revolutionary AI coding experience, Cursor is worth exploring, but Copilot remains the gold standard.
