Mailchimp Review: The Familiar Giant Embraces AI

Mailchimp is email marketing. With over 13 million users, it has become synonymous with the category. But in 2026, is name recognition enough? Here is our honest assessment.

The Mailchimp AI Features

Since the Intuit acquisition, Mailchimp has steadily added AI capabilities. The Creative Assistant generates email designs from your brand assets. Content Optimizer suggests improvements to your email copy. Send-Time Optimization uses machine learning to determine when each subscriber is most likely to engage. And Predictive Segmentation groups contacts by purchase likelihood.

These features work, but they feel like additions to an existing platform rather than a ground-up AI redesign like GetResponse. The AI suggestions are helpful but rarely transformative.

Where Mailchimp Still Excels

The integration ecosystem is unmatched. With 300+ integrations including every major ecommerce platform, CRM, and business tool, Mailchimp connects to virtually everything. The analytics dashboard provides clear insights into campaign performance. And the Customer Journey Builder creates sophisticated automation workflows (on Standard plan and above).

The Pricing Problem

Mailchimp has gotten expensive. The free plan now limits you to 500 contacts and 1,000 sends. The Standard plan at $20/month sounds reasonable until you realize it is based on 500 contacts -- scale to 10,000 contacts and you are paying $100+/month. GetResponse and Kit offer better value at scale.

Who Should Use Mailchimp

If your team already knows Mailchimp, switching costs are real. If you need specific integrations that only Mailchimp offers, it is worth the premium. And if you are a very small business with under 500 contacts, the free plan still provides genuine value.

The Bottom Line

Mailchimp is a good email marketing platform with improving AI features, but it is no longer the automatic first choice it once was. The pricing premium only makes sense if you specifically need Mailchimp's integration ecosystem or your team is already trained on the platform.

Our Verdict

Mailchimp remains the safe choice for email marketing, but it is no longer the best value. Recent price increases and the reduction of the free tier make alternatives like GetResponse more attractive for cost-conscious businesses. The AI features are improving but still trail purpose-built AI email tools. Mailchimp's strengths lie in its ecosystem (300+ integrations), reliability, and name recognition. For businesses already invested in the Mailchimp ecosystem, there is no urgent reason to switch. For new businesses choosing their first platform, GetResponse offers more for less.
