AI Writing Tool Pricing for Teams: Why Adding One Seat Can 5x Your Bill

We modeled Jasper, Writesonic, Copy.ai, and Rytr's published pricing tiers at team sizes from 1 to 15 people. The sharpest finding: Copy.ai's bill jumps from $49/mo to $249/mo -- a 5x increase -- the instant a solo user adds a single teammate, because its Starter plan has no stated multi-seat option.

Why "Starting Price" Doesn't Tell You What Your Team Will Pay

Every AI writing tool advertises a "starting at" price, but that number almost always describes a single user. The moment you add a second person, the pricing structure -- not just the price -- can change completely. We went through the published pricing tiers for four AI writing tools already covered on this site (Jasper, Writesonic, Copy.ai, and Rytr) and modeled what a real team actually pays at 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 15 people, using only the tier details each vendor publishes.

The Tools and Their Team Tiers

- **Jasper**: Creator ($49/mo) is 1 user. Pro ($69/mo) is a flat fee that covers up to 5 users. Above 5, you need Business, which is custom-quoted.

- **Writesonic**: Individual ($20/mo) is 1 user. Team ($99/mo) is a flat fee for up to 3 users. Above 3, you need Enterprise, which is custom-quoted.

- **Copy.ai**: Starter ($49/mo) does not publish a seat count -- nothing in its feature list mentions multi-user access. Advanced ($249/mo) is the first tier that explicitly states seats: 15 seats, flat. Above 15, Enterprise is custom-quoted.

- **Rytr**: Has no team or multi-seat plan at any tier. Saver ($9/mo) and Unlimited ($29/mo) are both single-account plans. A "team" using Rytr is really just several people with separate logins.

The 5x Cliff: Going From 1 Person to 2

This is where the pricing structures diverge hardest. Here is what a 2-person team pays on each tool's cheapest viable plan:

ToolSolo plan2-person planMonthly jump
Jasper$49/mo (Creator)$69/mo (Pro, covers up to 5)+$20/mo
Writesonic$20/mo (Individual)$99/mo (Team, covers up to 3)+$79/mo
Copy.ai$49/mo (Starter)$249/mo (Advanced, covers up to 15)+$200/mo (5.1x)
Rytr$9/mo (Saver)$18/mo (2 separate accounts)+$9/mo

Copy.ai's jump is the standout: because Starter has no published multi-seat allowance, the only way to add a single teammate is to move to Advanced -- a plan built for teams up to 15. You end up paying for 13 seats of headroom you may not use yet.

A 3-Person Team

At exactly 3 people, Writesonic's Team plan is a precise fit -- you use every seat you're paying for. Jasper's Pro plan also covers 3 people at the same flat $69/mo it charges for 2, so its per-seat cost keeps falling as you add people, up to its 5-user cap.

ToolPlanMonthly costCost per seat
JasperPro (up to 5)$69/mo$23.00
WritesonicTeam (up to 3)$99/mo$33.00
Copy.aiAdvanced (up to 15)$249/mo$83.00
Rytr3 accounts$27/mo$9.00

For a 3-person team, Jasper is the cheapest tool with real collaboration features (shared Brand Voice, project folders). Rytr is cheaper in raw dollars but gives each person an isolated account with no shared billing, brand voice, or admin controls.

5-6 People: Jasper Hits Its Ceiling

At 5 people, Jasper's Pro plan is still $69/mo flat -- $13.80 per seat, the best per-seat value of any tool at any size we modeled. Add one more person, though, and Jasper has no defined tier: 6 users requires Business, which is custom-quoted and not published anywhere. Writesonic hit this same wall two people earlier, at 4 users.

Copy.ai's Advanced plan, by contrast, still has 10 seats of unused headroom at 6 people, so it holds steady at $249/mo ($41.50/seat) -- expensive to start, but with far more runway before you hit a custom-quote wall.

Where Copy.ai's Expensive Tier Starts Paying Off

This is the least intuitive part of the pricing data: Copy.ai looks like the worst deal at 2-5 people and the best-structured deal at 6-15 people, purely because it's the only one of these tools with a published team tier that scales that far without hitting "custom pricing."

Team sizeJasperWritesonicCopy.aiRytr (n accounts)
2$69/mo$99/mo$249/mo$18/mo
3$69/mo$99/mo$249/mo$27/mo
5$69/moCustom$249/mo$45/mo
6CustomCustom$249/mo$54/mo
15CustomCustom$249/mo$135/mo

At 15 people, Copy.ai's Advanced plan works out to $16.60 per seat -- cheaper per seat than Jasper's Pro plan ever gets, and the only one of the three collaboration tools with a real, published price at that size.

What We Couldn't Verify

Jasper's Business tier, Writesonic's Enterprise tier, and Copy.ai's Enterprise tier are all "Custom" in the published pricing -- we have no way to model exact cost above their stated caps (5, 3, and 15 seats respectively), and we won't guess. If your team is larger than those thresholds, treat the numbers above as the ceiling of what's publicly knowable and expect to negotiate. Jasper's tier list also never states a specific word or character allowance (only "word limits on lower tiers" as a general caveat), so we could only model Jasper by seat count, not by usage volume -- unlike Rytr and Writesonic, which do publish character/word caps per tier.

The Bottom Line

- **1-5 people, want real collaboration:** Jasper Pro is the cheapest per-seat option, and the only one that gets cheaper per seat as you approach its cap.

- **Exactly 3 people:** Writesonic Team is a precise fit if you don't expect to grow past 3 soon.

- **6-15 people:** Copy.ai's Advanced plan becomes the best-structured deal of the group -- expensive to start, but it doesn't force a custom-quote conversation until 16 people.

- **Price is all that matters, collaboration isn't:** Rytr is cheapest at every team size, full stop -- but you're buying N separate subscriptions, not a team product.
